I’m undecided on the name (thanks Ramblin, you hoebag), but here are pictures of what $300 gets you in Wisconsin.
Pictured: a Pontiac with AC, cruise control, power locks, and power windows. Also a Hyundai with none of those things.
It has a stick and an Alpine head unit.
I’m going to see if I can sell things off of it to get it as close to zero cost. After all, you don’t really need bumper covers, right?

How light can you make it, and how much more air will that get you?

Don’t jack it up, it might fold in half.

I know you want to race it, but is that still road legal? That car would’ve flunked inspection ages ago where I live.

$300?! I guess I’m just used to UK used car prices.

You realize you are now no longer allowed to make fun of me for having owned a Neon, right?

We scrapped a car with a quarter that amount of rust...

UK prices are crazy cheap. Still though, a Hyundai like the Admiral Yi above would be a €100 car here, similar to what the scrapper would give you for it. You’d have to spend a fortune to get that thing road worthy, and it’s not exactly a lusted after donor car either.
I guess $300 is a good deal in a place without inspections though.

A Neon is worse than a $300 Hyundai.

Wisconsin doesn’t do safety inspections. I drove it home on the Interstate at 70mph.

I think I can get it under 2000lbs.

That is absolutely 100% false and you know it.

Not a first gen one.

Especially
a first-gen one.

Why? What’s wrong with it other than the head gasket?
![]() 06/30/2015 at 13:50 |

Disagree. After taking it on the Interstate the Hyundai rides better than any of the 3 Neons I’ve been in.

Was it actually able to go above 45mph?

I suppose when anything that runs is road legal pretty much cars can be worth a bit more. Lack of safety inspections scares me a little likes...

Yeah, I paid under £700 each for both my Ignis Sports, both with MOT. That’s one benefit of living here.

What are you up to this time? Dirt racer or something? Please tell me that this isn’t your new DD.
![]() 06/30/2015 at 16:36 |

Yeah the used prices are great. Insurance, tax and fuel on the other hand... not so much.
![]() 06/30/2015 at 18:43 |

I’m tempted to DD it because I’m a sick and twisted individual, but no.
It’s going racing... on the lake.
![]() 06/30/2015 at 19:00 |

It did 70mph... at what sounded like 5500rpm in 5th. The aftermarket tach they installed doesn’t work.
Every time you let off the gas it let out a puff of white smoke from the exhaust.

Head Gasket, they’re ugly, they’re built like garbage, they rust in weird places, the interior sucks.
![]() 06/30/2015 at 19:36 |

Oh man that looks bad. How bad were the ones that you did check before getting this?
![]() 06/30/2015 at 19:48 |

There’s not a huge market of $300 cars here. I will deal with it.
![]() 06/30/2015 at 19:55 |

$300 is cheap but that is still scary.
Finland just introduced €1,500 ($1670) scrapping fee for old cars (usable only when buying a new car) so I think our €500 cars prices just went up. Usually you could get an inspected and driveable car for €500.
